Drum Making Ceremony

The drum making ceremony (celebration) is over 2 weekends. While most drum making workshops are over a weekend, this ceremony honours the drum builder and the drum with songs.

The drum making ceremony begins like this:

1) People start to gather and get comfortable.
2) Smudging and prayer ceremony is offered to the group.
3) A talking stick is passed around the group A question is asked “Why do you seek the teachings of the drum ?”
4) A group demonstration and teaching of lacing the drum with a vinyl drum head.
5) The group then laces the vinyl drum head before the real thing.
6) Once the group is comfortable with the lacing, they start lacing the real thing.
7) then hang the drums to dry.
8) Closing drum making ceremony.
9) Homeward bound.
